Blade Runner Review

I didn’t get a chance to watch Blade Runner on Wednesday, but I was able to watch it today on my own. I also did some post-movie Internet research to help me get a better understanding of certain things that happened, and also to explore a few theories.

I thought it was funny that the movie was set in 2019, since that year has already passed, but our technology still isn’t as advanced as it was in the movie.

While I found the visual effects of the movie to be pretty cool, what really interested me was how “human” the replicants seem. They wanted a longer lifespan, which more or less speaks to the fear of death that every living creature has. This is further exemplified by the character Roy, who kills Tyrell when when Tyrell tells him he cannot extend his life, and again towards the end of the movie when Roy realizes his “time” has come.

It is also interesting that the replicants seem to treasure their memories, perhaps even more than the average person does. Rachael is distraught when she finds out that her memories aren’t even her own, and Roy expresses grief at the thought of losing his as he is dying.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie, but had to cover my eyes during *certain* scenes.
