Node 2 Reflection

I apologize for this reflection being late, I got caught up with projects in my other classes, and things going on in my personal life.

Most of my work for Node 2 was in the Canvas discussions. I had a bit of trouble keeping up with the assignments these past few weeks, mostly out of confusion for what I was supposed to do and where to post it. I haven’t been very active on Discord as a result, except for all the group assignments in class (which I did participate in, since I’ve attended almost every class in Node 2.)

Impressions of AI: I read the entire excerpt and put 2 comments in Persuall. I meant to come back to it and finish it, but I haven’t done so. I did the in-class activity, and I also participated in the Canvas discussion. In short, I said that AI means a computer that uses machine learning to do tasks, and can continue to improve on itself.

Applications of AI: For the Trolley Problem, I actually played it in high school, so I’m already familiar with it. I didn’t replay it this time, though through the class demonstration, I consistently picked saving people important to me over numerous strangers. For the Moral Machine activity in class, I did it with Macie, and she posted something to discord for our table. I also did the AI and Ethics Discussion in Canvas, where I said it would be better to let an AI learn thousands of simulations instead of just giving it rules to work with.

AI and Race: I’ll admit I skipped the AI and Race homework, because I was confused about the assignment requirements, and didn’t know what I was supposed to do. I should’ve asked questions, but didn’t, so this is on me. I remember doing the white-collar crime zone activity in class. I didn’t post anything about it on Canvas or Discord, though I plan on doing so before the end of the semester.

AI and Creativity: I found this unit to be really interesting. I like seeing what AI is capable of. It’s really fascinating, sometimes hilarious. That said, I completely failed the Bot or Not quiz. I guess I’m not very good at discerning human work vs AI. I posted something in the Canvas discussion about AI and Creativity. I basically said I don’t think AI can be truly creative because it doesn’t have the ability to think or feel, and its outputs are based on its inputs.

In terms of my Big Project, I have some ideas that I’m exploring. I haven’t put anything in Discord, mostly because I’m a bit uncomfortable with sharing my ideas to a lot of people. I actually did my Midterm Reflection before this, so in that, I said I was frustrated, but soon after I turned it in, I came up with a new idea that I like better, and I’m thinking about going forward with it.
