Video Game Creation

I’ve sketched out a video game idea that I had. I’ve dubbed this game “Mer-Treasure.” In this game, you play as a diver, who is trying to get to the bottom of the ocean to retrieve a giant treasure chest. However, there are many mermaids guarding the treasure, and will chase you as you go. You must dodge their attacks and try to outrun (or rather outswim) them. When you find the treasure, you must hurry back up to your boat while the mermaids continue to chase you. If you take too much damage, you lose the game.

I chose to make the characters silhouettes, because it adds a little mystery to them. I wanted it to be ambiguous as to who is the hero and who is the antagonist.

I also want to mention that “Mer-Treasure” was inspired by another game called Tiger Tiger, which is actually a video game within the video game, Xenoblade Chronicles 2. In Tiger Tiger, you play as a diver who is looking for treasure. There are multiple treasures to collect as you swim down to the ocean floor, instead of just one like in “Mer-Treasure”. However, both games have a big treasure at the bottom of the ocean floor. There are also many types of enemies that lurk. Unlike my game, most of them do not chase you, but will damage you if you touch them. You are able to fight the enemies in Tiger Tiger, but once the big treasure is collected and the diver starts swimming up towards the surface, he is no longer able to fight them and must avoid them instead.
